Thank You For Believing In This Race.
On Tuesday, the voters of Michigan’s 1st District chose to reelect Congressman Jack Bergman. I know how disappointing that is, especially for those of you who put so much of yourselves into this race. I want you to know how grateful I am.
To our volunteers who knocked doors, made calls, and drove miles across this district to make sure we reached people in small towns as well as big ones, thank you. To everyone who chipped in what they could, put a sign in their yard, or talked to a neighbor about why this race mattered, thank you. And to our campaign team, who worked right up until the polls closed, I’m so proud of what we built together.
Long after today, I’ll remember the conversations we had across Northern Michigan and the U.P. I’ll remember how often a conversation about health care came down to something as simple as how far someone had to drive to see a doctor. I’ll remember talking with military families about how much time they spend fighting for care their loved ones already earned. My family knows what that feels like. It’s one of the reasons I ran, and it’s work I’ll keep doing here at home.
To my husband and our girls, thank you for being in my corner through all of it. I know how much this campaign asked of you, and I’m grateful for the chance to be home with you.
I’m proud we gave people a real choice in a district that too many had written off. I’m especially grateful to those of you who took a chance on me even though you’d never voted for a Democrat before.
Here at home, I’m hopeful because I’ve seen how many people are willing to do the hard work of showing up for their neighbors, even when they don’t agree on everything. I hope we keep showing up for each other long after the yard signs come down.
It’s been an honor to run for Congress. Thank you for running with me.
